KMPO is holding a Public Transportation Roundtable meeting next Tuesday, Oct. 14 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Coeur d’Alene Public Library, 720 E. Front St.
The Public Transportation Roundtable is made up of staff members from transit providers, social service agencies, and other agencies and jurisdictions involved with public transportation, and citizens at-large. The objective of the Roundtable is to serve in an advisory capacity to the KMPO, providing recommendations on public transportation services and system improvements.
On the Roundtable meeting agenda: discussion of a possible location for a Citylink Transit Center, the possibility of implementing advertising on Citylink buses, and a discussion of paratransit funding issues in Kootenai County.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend.

I read with much interest in the Harrison Searchlight about the idea of a ferry across Lake Coeur d'Alene from Harrison to the west side of the lake. What a fantastic idea! I'm sure it has been discussed, but a tangible economic benefit of this would be as a tourist attraction. Can you imagine how many people would get out for a drive just to experience the ferry crossing? Thousands would and this could in turn help support the cost. Of course it also would save fossil fuels for those that need to commute from east to west.
Thanks for the comment Betsy! We've heard from a lot of other people too who are excited about the possibility of a ferry system. We are currently looking at funding availability in hopes of conducting a feasibility study on the idea, possibly starting next spring. So check back, we'll keep you updated.
